Panama Fem Art Coalition
PFAC was founded in 2020 by Panamanian artist María Raquel Cochez in response to the difficulties women face as artists in our region. We are a collective of empowered female artists working in Panama or Panamanian artists working abroad with mature bodies of work and research practices. We create opportunities and promote the visibility of our work while building a community of female artists. Through our discipline, experience, and success, we provide the necessary tools to support and benefit from each other. We hope to inspire women to undertake a sustainable art practice.
Panama, although a developing country in many aspects, lacks a complete art ecosystem. There aren't enough resources designated towards art and education. Currently, there are no art grants and limited opportunities for artists. Our art institutions are not yet consistent or sustainable. Due to economic pressures, several galleries have shut down further hindering opportunities.
Furthermore, because of COVID-19, the entire country has been in one of the strictest quarantines in the region for more than five months. This has been devastating for many emerging artists, because they are unable to work but still have financial obligations like rent and mortgages. The government is providing little or no help at all to most of its citizens.
PFAC is founded under the umbrella of service. We have a commitment to our fellow women artists and to create positive changes in the national art community. We achieve this through Panama’s first artist led internship program, free workshops, grants, community engagement, and involvement.
All donated funds are destined towards:
-COVID relief grants
-Annual art grants
-Guest artist fees for live interviews and workshops
-Exhibition spaces for emerging women artists of Panama
-Foundation fees
