Summer Internship - New York City
Family and Friends, Greetings!
I am currently a junior here at Eastern Illinois University. I have a cumulative G.P.A of 3.0. I am pursing a degree in Sociology and a minor in Criminology. I am also a leader on my campus. I am a Resident Assistant at Taylor Hall. This job is a major stepping stone in my career plan. Once I obtain my undergraduate degree, I will return to school in the Fall of 2015 to attend graduate school in pursuit of a degree in College Student Affairs.
I have been selected to intern at the University of Columbia in New York City from May until August as a Conference Housing Assistant and Resident Advisor. I will be provided a shared apartment and one meal daily Monday-Friday. Ultimately that leaves it up to me to provide breakfast and dinner during the week and all meals during the weekend. In addition, I will be required to provide my own transportation while working and exploring the city. As imagined, the bus passes will cost and any tourist attractions as well. I currently have a job that does not provide a substantial income that allows me room to save for my trip. This is a huge opportunity for me in lieu of my future career plans.
I am 1 of only 8 individuals selected internationally for this job positions. Columbia University is an Ivy league school is ranked 8th in the country. This not only a great opportunity for me from a cultural standpoint, but also great for networking and establishing relationships for future educational and work related opportunities. I would hate to miss out on this experience due to a lack of funding. This internship may only last for the summer; however, the memories, friends, experience, and connections will last me a lifetime.
Any contribution is a blessing to me. From change to bills, any will help and be greatly appreciated for your support. Family and friends I thank you in advance.
