Diane Hyatt #TeamDink

One of my best friends has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 non small cell adenocarcinoma with metastasis to her brain. Big words for lung cancer which has spread to the brain. Diane Hyatt is a friend to all. Our paths crossed many years ago when she started working with me in the Pediatric unit at SRMC as a RN. She has since transferred to the OB unit where she works in the nursery. She is a friend to all. A mother to 4 grown children (3 sons..1 daughter) and "grannylicious" to 7 precious grandchildren whom she adores. She spent her teen years and adult life ALWAYS taking care of others and putting their needs before her own. No health problems. Loves adventures. Loves life. On October 30th she started having a headache. Never had any migraines before but there is always a 1st time for everything...right? Over the next 10 days she experienced a little dizziness and some blurred vision which alarmed her. Her doctor ordered a MRI (special scan) of her brain on Nov 9th. She was sent directly from outpatient center to local ER and transported to UNC-CH for what we were initially told may be a "brain bleed" verses a mass. Once at UNC it was confirmed she indeed had a brain mass. After further testing a mass was found in her right lung (right upper lobe)...then came the dreaded word CANCER! Multiple procedures and testing was performed. She was discharged to home on Nov 16th to wait for all MDs to come together and formulate her treatment plan. Today we made the journey back to UNC for the official diagnosis (which I mentioned earlier) The plan is for cyberknife radiation treatments for brain mass (she will get this every other day for total of 5 treatments) and will start chemo regimen of Carboplatin and Alimta on Dec 21st. She will have to have chemo every 3 weeks for total of 4 treatments (12 weeks) after this plan is complete follow up testing will be performed to evaluate progress. Today we were told it is not curable...BUT is treatable. MD said "cancer is not a death sentence" we repeated this several times in conversation on the way home. Diane is head of her household. She is only source of income..and as we know she will be financially strained during this time. She has worked hard to obtain what she has. During this time I would like to reach out and ask others to assist her. It's time we take care of her for a little while. If you are not able to provide monetary donation please remember to uplift her in prayer. It will be a tough few months..but with a strong support system..prayers..positive attitude "We will beat this" #TeamDink. Thank you in advance for helping my bestie
