Gary's Medical Fund

Gregory (Gary) Lucas, Mi’kmaq living and working in Fort McMurray is originally from Stephenville Crossing Newfoundland. Gary is a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and a cherished member of an extended family within the Bay St. George Mi’kmaq community.  Gary and his wife of 41 years, Eileen, has dedicated their entire lives to helping others. Gary has served his country as a member of the Canadian military, served his Mi’kmaq community as Chief of the Indian Head Band, he served the wider community as a volunteer firefighter of the Stephenville Crossing Town and has always been there for family, friends and community members in need. No questions asked.  He is a strong Mi’kmaq man, warrior, leader and a protector of women and children.  He has great passion for recovering, revitalizing and protecting the Mi’kmaq culture and the ways of our families. 
Now Gary is facing the greatest challenge of his life as he’s been recently diagnosed with fourth stage cancer.  Gary will need continuous chemotherapy treatment over the coming months. This means regular travel between Fort McMurray and Edmonton with all the related costs.  Many of the additional related costs are not covered by any plans.  Most of you will understand, this is not an easy process and will bring great financial burdens and stress to him and his family. His doctor has also advised that he use alternative medicines to help deal with the daily, chronic pain and enormous stress. While these medicines are available, costs are not covered by any medical plans. Additionally, to have more comfort and peace, Gary has requested that he travel from Fort McMurray to Nova Scotia where he and Eileen have family and where they had planned to spend a happy retirement.  We want to Acknowledge and Honour Gary and Eileen’s great gifts that they’ve given to so many people throughout their lives and we’re inviting all of you to contribute what you can to help them during their time of great need.  Together we can bring some measure of comfort and relief during this difficult time. Our goal is to raise $10,000 through this campaign.  All the funds will be used to help cover the extraordinary costs that Gary and Eileen, and their family are facing.
