Layla’s Journey began on Feb 5th 2019 when her mother Shannon took her in for what was thought to be a recurring sinus infection.  Layla had been having symptoms of a headache, vomiting and the inability to concentrate.  However, Shannon felt it was something more.  She demanded a CT scan to be done.  The results of the scan revealed that Layla had a large mass on the right side of her brain, part fluid and part of a solid substance.  They admitted Layla immediately to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital and that’s when their lives turned upside down.
Layla had her first surgical procedure on February 7th.  Biopsy results revealed Layla’s tumor was a Anaplastic Ependymoma (a form of brain tumor) that is very rare.
Layla has already endured weeks of chemotherapy and just had her 5th surgery on April 19th to remove the ependymoma.  After she heals up from surgery she will be having 6 weeks of radiation with the possibility of 12 more weeks of chemo to follow.  This will require daily trips to Minneapolis which is and hour each way to and from their home.
Layla is a bright, full spirited, caring and very active 12 year old.  She plays LaCrosse, does competitive gymnastics year round at North Crest in Sauk Rapids, MN, and she LOVES to Golf!

Her attitude and strength continues to amaze us every day!  Everyone needs a little bit more of Layla in their lives!
