Mom's battling stage 4 cancer, metastatic

Hi, my name is Victoria Arrieta and my mother, Reina Galvan, was diagnosed with gastric/stomach cancer in March of 2022. It was very devastating news for our family and it has been quite the journey.

She immediately went through several rounds of chemotherapy. In August of 2022 she had stomach surgery; our hope was that the surgery would essentially remove her cancer but unfortunately that was not the case.

When we consulted with her oncologist in February of 2023 we were informed that her cancer progressed to metastatic disease/stage 4. Her cancer is very aggressive now and has spread to other organs.

My mother has been able to keep up with all of the high medical costs thus far but it is now becoming financially burdensome. My parents income has dropped since my mother started her cancer journey last year and unfortunately her insurance doesn’t cover all of the medical costs.

She is currently taking a more aggressive chemotherapy treatment because the previous treatments have not worked. We will have an update in a couple of weeks to determine if the current chemo treatment is shrinking and/or stopping the cancers growth.

Her oncologist stated that if we don’t receive positive results then we should consider seeking treatment at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas or Mayo Clinic in Minnesota as they will have more clinical trails and advanced options.

Mi madre, Reina Galvan, fue diagnosticada de cancer en el estómago en Marzo, 2022. Inmediatamente empezó varias rondas de quimioterapia y en Agosto del 2022 le hicieron cirugía en su estómago.

Nuestra esperanza era de que se le desaparezca el cancer con la cirugía pero desafortunadamente ese no fue el resultado.

Cuando consultamos con el oncólogo en Febrero del 2023 el nos informó de que el cancer se le avanzó a nivel 4/enfermedad metástica. El cancer se ah regado a otros órganos y es muy agresivo.

Mi mama tuvo recursos para cubrir los gastos médicos pero últimamente se le ha echo muy grande la carga financiera.

El ingreso de mis padres ha bajado bastante y desafortunadamente su aseguranza médica no cubre todos los gastos.

En unas semanas tenemos una consulta con el oncólogo para saber si el nuevo tratamiento está funcionando.

El oncólogo dice que si no tenemos resultados positivos tendremos que considerar trasladarla al hospital de Houston o de Minnesota ya que ellos tienen ensayos clínicos y opciones más avanzados. Por esta razón estamos solicitando ayuda en lo que puedan aportar.
