Sydney's journey to New York

Payton and I are proud to annouce that Sydney has been accepted the American Ballet Theater in New York, NY home of her idol Misty Copeland for a 2-week summer intensive program. This is very special in that only a select few dancers from across the country were selcted. Sydney will receive intensive training from world renowned instructors in Pointe, jazz, lyrical, tap and character dance. Needless to say she is beyond excited!
According to Virginia Johnson, editor of Pointe Magazine, "The disparity between black and white ballerinas stem from lack of economics, access to training and artistic vision".
Sydney started dancing at the Indianapolis School of Ballet at age 7 under the direction of Victoria Lyras former principal dancer at the Pennsylvania Ballet. Currently, Sydney is an honors 5th grader at Robey elementary in Wayne Township. Sydney is also an active member of Bethel Family Worship Center where she loves to thank God for this gift that he has given her. Thus far, her favorite production is that of the Nutcracker where she had the opportunity to play the main character Clara and dance along side Paul Vitali also of the Pennsylvania Ballet.
Clearly Sydney has the vision and has access to great teachers, but we would be lying if we told you that economically it wasn't a struggle.
Because this was such an unexpected cost we need your help. We are trying to raise $4500 to help ensure our promising young dancer gets a once in a lifetime training experience.
Payton and I would like to thank you in advance for your love, prayers and financial support. Please feel free to share this campaign with friends and social media.
