Paul Garavin | 18/03/1972 – 22/09/2000

On the 20th anniversary of Paul’s death we feel that it is important to mark and celebrate his life. In his 28 years Paul travelled the globe. He developed a particular love for Nepal and spent many happy months trekking the mountains, meeting and making friends en route and supporting local businesses. Before his untimely death, he had just returned to UCD to start a masters with a view to working to support and develop Nepalese cottage industries.
Paul had a ‘larger than life’ personality and he was a person who lived life to the full. It did not matter whether this was just meeting a few mates for a pint; scaling the side of a sheer cliff; or competing in an international karate competition – he brought the same energy and zest for life to everything he touched. A man with a huge heart and an overwhelming sense of ‘fair play’ he always stood up for the less fortunate in life.
With this in mind we are launching a Go Fund Me page in Paul’s memory and pledging all donations to Merchants Quay Ireland. Merchants Quay is an Irish homeless charity that provides lifesaving services in a non-judgemental and compassionate way, to reduce the harm caused by addiction and homelessness.
We would love to hear your memories of Paul if you knew him. And for those who never met him, we do hope you get a sense of the man he was , the son, the brother, friend that we lost and will never forget.
