On April 18th 2013 my mother and best friend Earlene Risner was diagnosed with ALS also known as Lou Gehrigh's disease. For those of you that don't know about ALS, it is a terminal illness that attacks motorneurons and eventually shuts your body down. There is no cure or medical treatment for this disease. As you can imagine this has been horrific news that has turned our world upside down. My mother has been in good health and is only 63 years young, She loves to golf and spend time with her family. I have thought about setting up the Go Fund Me account for months now. It is a hard decision to ask others for help especially when it comes to money. My parents have always been the people that help others with whatever it is they need; money, borrowing vehicles, etc, anything they could help with, they did. I have helped out financially as much as I could, however, I want to be at every Doctor appointment and other appointments and I miss days at work that go without pay. My ability to help financially has been very limited. I discussed with my parents about setting this account up they are aware and "ok" with it. Although this may hurt their pride, it just has to be done. My mother and our family have great hope that we can stop the progression of this terrible disease and maybe even reverse some of the symptoms. This hope comes from lots of research, as we have decided to take a hollistoc approach. She is eating all organic food and taking a whole lot of supplements and vitamins. As it is believed that ALS is caused by toxins. This is where the help comes in. My mom is on disability and my dad is living on retirement. The supplements that my mom currently takes cost over $1000.00 a month. She also has/had several thousands of dollars in Doctor visits that the insurance will not pay. The cost of eating organic is also very expensive. She needs to see the hollistic Doctor and that gets expensive too as insurance will not cover. Unfortunatly being healthy and taking care of your body correctly is a very pricey. We have been speaking to health advocates that have worked with others with ALS that have survived 15 years or more. You may think that the dollar amount set is extremly high and I agree, the cost of this will not go away and this amount will only get them by for some time. I cannot allow my mother to not get the best care available that could also help her live a longer live because of money. I also hope that they do not have to go through the stress and struggle of paying everyday bills as their stress level is through the roof. I please ask you to donate anything that you can to help!
