Medical Bills

Donation protected
The Crockett family is trying to raise money to help pay for the medical bills of my father. My dad has had Parkinson's disease for nearly ten years, and was diagnosed with dementia about four years ago. Over the past year, both conditions have gotten progressively worse, resulting in him having decreased mobility and motor skills, as well as trouble communicating and expressing cohesive thoughts. He struggles with doing every-day tasks, such as getting dressed, going to the bathroom, and walking long distances without assitance. He is between stage 4 and stage 5 of Parkinson's, which is the worst degree of the disease.

In November of 2013, he fell while walking down our driveway and broke his hip, resulting in him getting hip surgery at our local hospital. He also hit his head in the fall, which might have induced memory loss and increased his confusion to a certain degree. Soon after his surgery, he was put temporarily into a rehab center.

He has been in the rehab center for nearly three months, slowly regaining strength in his hip and legs to the point where he is now able to walk short distances with the help of his walker. Within the past two months, he was evaluated by an occupational therapist, who said that he has signifcant cognitive impairment, meaning that he will forget that he broke his hip and will try to walk without any assistance. Now it is no longer safe for him to be left alone for any degree of time, and his condition will only worsen.

He will be coming home at the start of next week, but will need lots of care and medical equipment. Thankfully, his insurance will cover 85% of the cost of the eqipment and will also cotinue to cover physical therapy. However, we will not receive any coverage from medicare or insurance to pay for an adult day care program during the day while my mom is at work. This is crucial to have so he won't be alone and vulnerable to another accident. This would take place five days a week every week for the foreseeable future, so as you can imagine, the cost will really start to add up.

The approximate cost of weekly adult day care is $20,000 per year, which only includes week-days. Our goal is to raise enough money for two years of daycare as well as money for extra expenses.

We really need your help! My mom is working a full-time job, as well as running the house, visiting my dad, and taking care of me, so any donation towards our cause would go a long way! On top of that, my older brother has started college this year, which is yet another expense that we have to worry about. She's also putting money aside for me when I go off to college in 2 years.

My dad is a caring and loving man who values his family more than anything else in the world. All he wants is to come back home, which he has expressed to us every time we visit him. I miss my dad every day, and it is really hard not having him at home with us. It's like a huge piece of our family is missing, and it's been taking a toll on us all. My dad has spent every year of my life providing for me and my whole family, and now it's my turn to help provide for him.

Any money you can give would really make a difference towards having him home with us and providing a care system for him during the day.
