Following several spectacular actions in Canberra this past Budget Week, Extinction Rebellion activists from as far afield as Brisbane and Melbourne are now proceeding through the legal system. 10 Rebels were arrested at the week's various actions, with three pleading guilty and the rest awaiting hearings on the 10th of June. Having refused bail, brave Rebels Violet and Lesley were held at Alexander Maconochie Centre, a prison in Canberra, for seven days.
We in Extinction Rebellion are gathering support funds to help us to take further actions like these. The actions in Canberra this week were undertaken at great expense, and you can help pay down some of those costs and fund further actions by donating here.
Violet locked herself to the top of a truck blockading Parliament House, disrupting business as usual for the sake of her nephews’ and all children’s futures.
Lesley glued herself to the road to blockade Parliament House, and then after being arrested and released, glued herself to the front door of the building. She took these actions for her grandson.
