Sebastian Anthony Murtough

Sebastian Anthony Murtough, was taken ill on 1 December 2013 aged 19 months.  He was diagnosed with a kidney infection caused by the narrowing of the ureter on his right kidney.  This resulted in a percutaneous nephrostomy taking place (an artificial opening is created between the kidney and the skin and a tube is inserted which allows for the urine to be diverted into an external bag) to drain the urine while the infection was being treated.  As a result of investigations and treatment during December a Blastemal Wilms Tumour was also detected on his left kidney, and Seb is currently undergoing Chemotherapy at Oxford Children's Hospital to shrink the size of the tumour before surgery to remove it.

The surgery will now take place at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London, due to Seb having two separate issues with both kidneys which is rare. The surgery will involve not only removing the tumour, but the left kidney it is attached to as well.  There is a likely hood the family (Steve Murtough & Kelly Brant) will be in London for approximately one month before returning home to carry on the Chemotherapy in Oxford.

Once Seb has fully recovered from this ordeal he will then have to undergo the necessary treatment to correct the flow of urine from his right kidney.  This will be rectified by inserting a ureteral stent to increase the width of the ureter which will support the normal function of draining the urine directly from the kidney to the bladder and allow him to then lead a normal life.  However the road to this point will be a long and bumpy one, with a lot of expense the average family has not budgeted for.

I am sure you will agree that Seb and his family need all the support they can get during this time.  CLIC Sargent (National) and CALM (Local) charities have already provided the family with much needed monetary and emotional support and fund raising events here in Swindon have already started.

Saint George Groves and Paddy Fitzpatricks Boxing Gym are auctioning 10 pairs of signed gloves, a signed T shirt from the saint and a weekend training camp with the gym in Swindon plus accommodation.  On 1 March there is an event/party at the Sun Inn (Coate Water), supported by Paddy Fitzpatricks Boxing Gym, to raise awareness and have fun for all ages.  This is then followed by a further event on 8 March at the Deer's Leap being organised by Steve's brothers and sister.  It will have karaoke, face painting, bouncy castles, head shaving, waxing and more... to raise money for The Oxford Children's Hospital.  Please find the time to join these events and show your support.

I would love all our family and friends to help Steve and Kelly with the costs they will incur during this journey which is why I have set up this fund.  Please help me in supporting them with a few pennies, lots of good wishes and much love.  Thank you.
