Michelle Clemens is an Emmy-nominated news reporter and anchor for WBAY Action 2 News in Green Bay, Wisconsin

Ever since she was in grammar school, Michelle knew that she wanted to be a TV news broadcaster. To accomplish this, she went to the University of Missouri, which had the top-ranked journalism school, and received her degree in Broadcast Journalism, giving the commencement speech for the graduation ceremony.

Prior to WBAY, she also worked in a number of roles for KOMU TV in Columbia, Missouri, as well as ABC News One in Washington, D.C.

MIchelle has encountered some health setbacks, starting with a heart infection in April that resulted in a ruptured brain aneurysm with a subarachnoid hemorrhage. She was on life support after being flown to ThedaCare, a stroke center in Neenah, Wisconsin. After a month in intensive care and the neurological unit, she was moved to the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (a rehabilitation hospital) in downtown Chicago. The ruptured brain aneurysm was on the left side of the brain, which has caused deficits on her right side, as well as impacting her ability to speak. She was there for almost four weeks until she moved back home with her parents to convalesce.

She is continuing with an intensive therapy program 5 days a week with the AbilityLab, focusing on getting strength back to her right leg, movement, function, and strength on her right arm, and the ability to speak. She suffers from two separate conditions, apraxia and aphasia, which have to do with making the correct sounds, as well as finding the right words. Her intelligence is not affected, as she comprehends what is going on. She has come a long way since April, but it is a slow process, especially to regain her verbal skills.

As somebody who made her living communicating, we want to give Michelle every chance for a full recovery. Her goal is to return to broadcasting. We want to continue her intensive speech therapy, but these programs cost $20,000 - $25,000 a month, and are not covered by insurance.

Any help is appreciated by Michelle and her family.
