Hi, I’m Emma!
I’m disabled, currently unemployed, and in urgent need of help
I have fibromyalgia, T1 diabetes, and depression. At best, my health issues make regular daily activities a challenge; at worst, I’m unable to leave bed for days at a time.
In March 2022, I was forced to leave my home due to a mould infestation. Most of my belongings were destroyed. My (former) landlords promised to fix everything while I moved out ‘temporarily’. Like a fool, I believed them.
In May 2022, I was served an eviction notice. They refused to start repairs unless/until I agreed to end my lease; I was evicted into homelessness.
For 8 months, I jumped between hotels, hostels, friends’ couches, and even a brothel. I spent thousands of dollars moving between accommodations. During that time, I was subject to DV and SA; my physical and mental health were suffering, I lost the support of my parents, and I was excluded from university.
I spent every waking moment preparing my NCAT case. After 13 gruelling months, I won. My landlords were ordered to compensate me $15,000. However, I’m yet to receive a cent.
I’m facing extreme financial hardship and can no longer afford to stay in Sydney. So, I’ve had to make the tough decision to move back to Victoria.
I have to vacate my current rental property by the 27th of May 2023, I’m scraping by on the DSP, and struggling to afford moving expenses.
I’m desperately to raise money to cover:
- My lease break-fee - $840;
- Removalists - $1,480;
- Salem’s pre-travel vet check - $250; and
- Car hire for the 932km journey home - $800.
I am eternally grateful for the generosity of those who have supported me over the past 14 months. Once my luck turns, I hope to pay that kindness forward ❤️
