Dear Friends,
I've been invited to serve on a social justice panel at the annual Philosophy of Education Society meeting this March, in New Mexico- but I'm going to need some help getting there!!
Those of you who are familiar with my work at Community Supported Everything, know how deeply I believe in alternative higher education as a platform for social change. The panel at the conference will focus on the relationship between social justice and alternative higher education. The panel will look at the experience of alumni from the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies- and how that particular experience of alternative education prepared students to be active change-makers in the world.
Many of you know how influential my undergraduate experience was for me. It's nearly impossible to adequately describe the value of such a liberating model of learning. I see this invitation as a powerful opportunity to give voice to that experience as well as represent what we are working on here in Portland. I hope to create momentum around what many of us would like to see education evolve towards- a personalized, life-affirming system of possibility and creativity- where we measure value through action, rather than through paper degrees.
I am launching this individual campaign to cover the gap in the cost of travel so that I can attend. If you support my work and want to help, please consider contributing to this campaign. I can't get there without you!
