Gender-affirming surgery for refugee trans woman

My name is Ovileya and I am a transgender woman from Bangladesh, now living in Greece as a refugee. I was forced to flee my home after surviving rape, violence, and kidnapping, as well as insults, abuse, and harassment from my family and other community members.

 

It was not possible for me to survive any longer in Bangladesh, but after a long struggle, I have now been recognized as a refugee in Greece, where I have been living for the past five years. In a landmark ruling, I won the right to be officially recognized as a woman. I am now able to live with more dignity, peace, and respect than was possible in the country I fled.

 

 

However, I still face harassment and hardship. Nor do I have access to the funds or work which would enable me to meet the significant costs of gender-affirming surgery myself. As such, I am asking for your support to raise €20,000 to meet the costs of this vital surgery.

 

I have been taking hormones for several years, and with the support of friends, I was also able to get breast augmentation surgery. Now I am raising funds for sex reassignment surgery, the key final step in my journey to finally feeling at home in my body.

 

Throughout my journey, I have learned that nothing can be achieved alone, only together. This surgery will help me to finally walk, work, sleep, and dance in the body that I have known was mine from a very young age. This is my dream and has been ever since I can remember.

Me llamo Ovileya y soy una mujer trans de Bangladesh, que ahora vive en Grecia como refugiada. Me vi obligada a huir de mi hogar tras sobrevivir a violaciones, violencia y secuestros, así como a insultos, abusos y acoso por parte de mi familia y otros miembros de la comunidad.

Ya no me era posible sobrevivir en Bangladesh, pero tras una lucha larga, ahora me han reconocido como refugiada en Grecia, donde vivo desde hace cinco años. En una sentencia histórica, gané el derecho a ser reconocida oficialmente como mujer. Ahora puedo vivir con más dignidad, paz y respeto de lo que era posible en el país del que huí.

Sin embargo, sigo sufriendo acoso y dificultades. Tampoco tengo acceso a los fondos ni al trabajo que me permitirían hacer frente a los costes significativos de la cirugía de afirmación del género por mí misma. Por ello, solicito vuestro apoyo para recaudar 20.000 euros para hacer frente a los costes de esta cirugía vital.

Llevo varios años tomando hormonas y, con el apoyo de amigues, también pude operarme de aumento de pecho. Ahora estoy recaudando fondos para la cirugía de reasignación de sexo, el último paso clave en mi viaje para sentirme finalmente a gusto en mi cuerpo.

A lo largo de mi viaje, he aprendido que no se puede conseguir nada sola, solo juntes. Esta cirugía me ayudará a caminar, trabajar, dormir y bailar por fin en el cuerpo que sé que es mío desde una edad muy joven. Este es mi sueño y lo ha sido desde que tengo uso de razón.
