Heart Transplant Survival
Donation protected
I found out in May 2013 that I have heart failure. My heart is too large and too weak. At the age of 33, I am taking medications my grandmother took in her 80's. I have been told that a heart transplant is my only option left. I am a mother of 3 wonderful children. My 2 sons were both born at 26 weeks. Doctors wanted me to terminate my pregnancies due to possible deformities and left my babies with zero chance of survival. I fought along side my little guys and never gave up faith and today I have a healthy and happy 7year old and 4 year old. God has blessed me with these miracles and I pray he blesses me with another. My babies are my world. They never gave up on me and now it's my turn to not give up on them.
I have medical insurance which covers 100% of the transfer itself but only covers 80% of my medications. That doesn't sound like too much on my part, but my 20% for one of the post transplant medications will run me $1300 per month. I have been denied AS I due to my husband's income. I need Medi-cal as a back-up and proof that even without it I will be able to pay for my medications. Without proof, a transplant will not be approved. My cardiologist said I don't have 2-3 years to wait. I need help now. I am not ready to die, but if I do, it will not be without a fight. Game on.
