Every 2 minutes a child dies from Malaria, 10,000 deaths are registered in Uganda alone with the highest number of cases arising from Northern Uganda mainly because of the 20-year insurgency that crippled most of its infrastructure inclusive of health facilities. These districts include Lira, Oyam, Pader, Lmawo, Kitgum, Gulu, and Oyam among others.
Despite the government putting in place a malaria reduction strategic plan with indoor residual spraying, the malaria burden is still high and yet private clinics charge an equivalent of 50,000 Ugandan Shillings to treat a patient. Because of this, some have opted to burn dry pawpaw leaves around their houses to drive away mosquitoes.
Malaria prevalence increased by 36% in 2022 according to data from the office of the district officer in Lira due to seasonal variations in the rainfall pattern.
We are fighting malaria by incorporating mosquito repellent into an everyday product-soap and making it accessible and affordable to low-income communities.
We are raising funds to
- Create awareness about malaria in four districts and reach up to 40,000 people.
- Launch a WASH Project to create awareness on sanitation. Hold trainings for community representatives, and WASH committee members on water system management, environmental sanitation and hygiene as well as forming and reactivating WASH committees.
- Subsidize 20,000 products at 25 cents per product.
- By supporting our campaign, you will be educating over 50000 people and giving them hope to put an end to malaria in their homes.
- We plan to distribute over 1000 sanitary packs to girls in schools which include reusable pads, 2 underwears and a piece of Uganics soap. This will also be paired with awareness to break the barriers and myths around menstruation for women and girls in Northern Uganda.
