On September 28, 2018 we found out our very good friend, Kim Ehrenhaft, was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. This came as a total shock to all of us, especially Kim, and we are still learning all we can about the disease, diagnosis and treatments plans. What we do know is that her prognosis is very positive and we have no doubt she will come through this fight even stronger, if that is possible. With that said, the road ahead over the next several months will be challenging.

Kim is scheduled to undergo lumpectomy surgery just before Thanksgiving on November 20. The pathology report showed that this cancer is what’s called “triple-negative” which means that it lacks both Estrogen and Progesterone, and also the HER-2 protein. Basically, it is a very aggressive cancer. While normal cancers can spread via the lymph system, this cancer can do that as well, but it also has the ability to bypass the lymph system and jump to the bloodstream and spread that way too. Depending on what they find during surgery, treatment (which may include chemo, radiation or other medications) may need to be aggressive as well.

The emotional and financial burden of surviving breast cancer is a challenge (to say the least). Kim is the most honest, dedicated, caring, dependable, bravest, smartest, cat-loving, master crafter, and all around greatest human that we know, and I am sure you all agree that she deserves and needs our love and support now more than ever.

This is where you and this fund come in. Not only are medical bills continuing to add up, Kim has had a very rough go of it as of late. After company lay-offs in the magazine industry a couple of years ago, she lost her full-time job and since has only been able to find part-time work. If that weren’t difficult enough, this reduced income caused her to lose her home, which had been her grandfather’s house. She has been staying with family, but unfortunately, that is coming to an end soon as well. Kim does not get paid while away from the job, therefore will not have any income following her surgery and during recovery and treatments. This is where you come in!

Kim has given of herself through volunteering -- she’s been a foster for homeless cats, she volunteers for Christmas Without Cancer, takes photos for her local library, and has been Chairperson for our class reunion committee for the past 20+ years -- now is the time to give back to her!
We are reaching out, pleading, to our amazing and supportive network of family and friends to help, in any and every, shape or form. Any donation is greatly appreciated and will be a huge help to Kim during the next few months.

A few examples of what the funds raised through this site will be used for:

-Surgery
-Medical treatment costs (chemo, radiation, other medications, as needed)
-Bills and expenses such as rent that will add up while Kim is out of work
-Any other unanticipated costs that come along with this fight

Please also note that any funds collected that Kim does not end up needing to cover the costs outlined above will be donated to help other women fight this awful disease. In 2018 alone, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S.

Thank you all for reading and considering Kim’s road ahead!!
