Dear friends and community,
On March 6th our sweet friend, Brigida Uto, was admitted to the hospital with "extreme levels" of thallium in her blood. If you do not know Brigida, her friends describe her as one of the most gentle, selfless, and loyal souls they have ever met. Her family and toddler are the light of her life. Brigida is a special education teacher with a love for learning. She has a passion for running, and has been a faithful military support and wife since she met Race at her high school prom when she was 18, married at 25.
Brigida's prognosis is unknown. It is uncertain when she will be able to return to work due to the effects of thallium on her health. She has suffered significant nerve damage, as well as emotional and physiological trauma. Physicians are unsure if she will ever regain feeling in her legs. They believe it could take anywhere from several months to a few years to fully regain feeling and ever walk again. Her organs have also suffered tremendous damage. Brigida will need intensive rehabilitation, care and equipment for an unknown period of time. She is thankful that she is able to continue to being a mom to her young son.
