I am 82 years young, but at the moment I feel like 182 years old! Earlier this year I was injured in a bad multi-car accident on the freeway. My car was totaled and I suffered some serious injuries. The impact caused the air bag to hit me hard in the face and chest, and I have the following injuries:
HEARING LOSS: I can no longer understand much of what is being said on the phone or in person. This makes communication extremely difficult. Medicare does not pay for hearing aids. Approximate cost is $5,000.
DENTAL LOSS: The air bag broke the bridge for my upper teeth, and it fell out. This left only the 7 tooth lower bridge. Eating is very difficult as it is impossible to chew.
DENTAL REPAIR: Extensive work is needed to repair the damage, including extraction of the broken anchor teeth and insertion of a temporary denture while it is healing. When healing is complete, then a permanent denture needs to be made. Medicare does not cover dental treatment. Approximate cost is up to $15,000.
CATARACT SURGERY: The surgery for the left eye has been pending. But the impact in the accident affected that eye and the vision is very blurry. The surgery is now necessary. Medicare does not pay for eye surgery. Approximate cost is up to $7,000.
Unfortunately, there wasn't/isn't adequate insurance from the accident to cover any of this treatment.
These conditions are making it virtually impossible for me to interview and gain new employment, and I am the sole wage earner for my household. I am in desperate need of this necessary medical/dental treatment so I can get on with earning a living. Fortunately, my brain is still working well. At least, I am pretty sure it is.
It is very embarrassing to have to ask for help, but I am plum out of options and don't know what else to do but to turn to friends and family. I would be eternally grateful if you are able to help in any way.
