I never thought I would do one of these. However, sometimes life kicks us in the teeth and you find yourself doing things you could never imagine.
Lucas was born with Cystic Fibrosis.
Lucas has been struggling with his health lately, much more than ever before and finances are getting very difficult.
Lucas went into kidney failure in the beginning of August. He worked up until the time he went into the hospital. He is now on dialysis and having surgeries to make the fistula strong enough for ongoing dialysis.
He can’t work anymore. Disability has not been approved yet and that can take forever. Krystal is the only one working in a household of 5 people. Krystal, Lucas and their 3 children are surviving on her salary only and she works very hard and works long hours. They are barely making ends meet. Then add in the medical expenses.
In addition, Lucas has also been advised that his lung function has decreased also. His pulmonary function tests were the worst they have ever been in October and he is being retested the end of January. He was also advised that if there isn’t improvement by then…it would be time to talk about a double lung transplant. This wouldn’t happen in Albany, he would have to travel at least to NYC. This would also require him to have a kidney transplant because whatever function may be left of his kidneys would be destroyed by the medications he’d need to be on to prevent rejection of the lungs.
They are looking at a long road ahead of them which will directly impact his family and extended family and friends.
