Nashville Tornado Relief

On the morning of Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020 at about 12:30am, we woke up to the sounds of blaring sirens and harsh, loud, whirling winds. By the time we fully woke up and processed what was happening, we were already in the middle of the tornado. We live in the Germantown neighborhood in Nashville, and our apartment complex was in the direct line of the tornado that struck the city.
Most of our complex (The Vista Germantown) was essentially destroyed and our car was parked on the uncovered roof portion of our complex’s parking garage. We were able to stop by for a few minutes this morning after being housed in a emergency community shelter at the farmers market nearby. We were able to safely get to our unit and rushed to grab important items and clothes for a few days. We grabbed some food for our dog Simba, and our friend picked us up. Our building is not suitable for occupancy at this time. We have some arrangements for right now, but are grateful to nearby friends that have offered temporary housing solutions. However, we still have no clue what the future holds regarding our furniture, household items, remaining clothes, and other possessions. We have renters insurance, but still need to figure out that entire process. We don’t know what items we will be able to get back, or if insurance will cover everything. Additionally, our car is wrecked. All the windows are completely shattered and there is significant damage to the car. Our car was tossed around and hit by adjacent cars and flying debris. We still don’t know the complete damage done to our car, and we don’t even know if a towing company will be able to safely get to the rooftop to get our car out of the wreckage.
Many people have asked how they can help support us at this time. Other than a roof to sleep under (which we are set on for now), we still aren’t exactly sure how we need help. We figured that setting up a GoFundMe would be the best option for us in the meantime, so we can use the funds as necessary as any unforeseen expenses arise.
