Support Jess, Nath and Little Sonny

Hi I’m Emma. 2 weeks ago my sister Jess was 24 weeks pregnant and had just gotten back from the trip of a lifetime, travelling up to the top end of Australia with her husband Nath. Her pregnancy thus far had been a typical pregnancy, the usual tiredness and occasional morning sickness. When they returned from their trip they had an ultrascan and it was discovered that their little boy hasn’t grown much since 21 weeks. After a lot of further tests and scans it was discovered that the placenta was failing. It was described as a 4 cylinder car working off 1 cylinder. Jess was admitted to Monash hospital where she underwent daily scans that checked the blood flow to their babies heart was enough to keep him alive. It was a day by day ordeal and they were told as soon as the blood flow wasn’t sufficient the baby would have to be born. As anyone who has had a preemie baby would know, this news is extremely frightening and the unknown is one of the most stressful things any parent will endure. Jess got to 26 and 1 day pregnant and had to have a c-section this Tuesday night. On the 9th oct 2018, little sonny smith was born at 11.02pm. He weighed a tiny 446 grams and 27cms long. He defied doctors by breathing on his own, however as anyone with a baby in the NICU will know, there are many setbacks and a long road ahead. Last night sonny had to be intubated to assist his breathing and this morning at 3 days old has had 2 blood transfusions. Jess owns her own hairdressing business and now obviously cannot work, although she is currently in hospital, on Sunday they will have to leave sonny there and make daily trips to the Monash (1 hr each way). Not only is the burden of not being able to work, but the added financial burden of petrol, bills, tolls, Monash car parking etc. I am setting this go fund me up to help alleviate some of the financial burdens and so that possibly in the first few critical weeks they could pay for some accomodation close by to the hospital. I always knew my sister was a strong person, but these past few weeks have given me a different kind of respect and admiration for her and Nath and I just want to help in any small way I can. So please if you can spare anything to go towards making their journey ahead of them a little less stressful, I would be eternally grateful. And please everyone keep little sonny in your thoughts, he is just the cutest teeny tiny person I’ve ever laid eyes on. ❤️
