Community Music Roots Celtic Connection
Donation protected
Mountain View, AR relies on musical tourism, and a preserved musical cultural heritage as an economic base. Our goal is to investigate the Celtic links to American Oldtime music, learn techniques and tunes by attending the famous Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Scottish Fiddle Camp in Skye, Scotland. Money from contributors will be used to send Emily Phillips (a senior, past Music Roots fiddle student, AR fiddle 2nd place winner and instructor) and her chaperone Shay Pool (long time Music Roots instructor and volunteer) to Scotland.
Upon returning to Mountain View they will present a two day workshop during the first half of August 2014. Each day will have separate classes for beginner and intermediate players. One day of the "Community Give Back Workshop" will be free to any Music Roots fiddle student in Stone County. This will benefit the young students of this culturally rich community and show them how Celtic music has influenced Ozark traditions.
