A Better Life

Donation protected
8 years ago I went to Morocco to volunteer teach and was billeted with a family with many kids. The organiser was Besma, an 18 year old, (same age as Esther) who was basically responsible for financially raising her brothers and sisters, even though she had a mum and a dad.
I lost her that gig of billeting, because I slept in their lounge room, was not provided with regular meals, and had only a cold tap to wash with.
After living with them for 6 weeks, I left. And felt very guilty about loosing their income. So I sponsored Besma for 1 year to study. I was hoping she would do a University course, but she said she needed a job as soon as possible to pay for the family rent.
She studied for one year, passed, and moved to Qatar to work in hotels. She was able to earn enough to keep herself and send enough money home to pay rent and pay for her siblings to finish high school. She was there just on a year, when she was sexually abused by her supervisor. Having no recourse for justice in that country, she honourably and bravely left, and went back to Morocco.
It would be a year before she could take up another position, this time in Dubai, which is slightly better when it comes to women’s and workers rights.
Now, Her sister is almost finished a law degree. Her brother is about to start uni, as is her youngest sister. One sister had breast cancer and left school. The other does not study or work! All this time Besma has kept the payments on their rented home.
She is now 27, same as Esther. She is tired of the sexual advances, the proposals to become a high paid prostitute, the offers of marriage which would see her enslaved in a life of domination and no freedom.

She is working towards becoming an independent woman. Rare in Morocco. She wants a deposit to buy a house in Morocco, that would give her income to cover her family bills.

And so now I am asking for assistance. I want to raise $10000 for Besma, for a deposit. She would work and pay a loan off, but needs a head start.

I think she deserves a head start. If you can spare $50, $100, $200, $1000, $2000 I would like to hear from you.

I am just putting this out to the universe.

I have tried to have her visit Australia to fulfil interviews for work. Dutton has sealed our borders so tight, she can not get in, even as a sponsored visitor. Please help me by sharing with friends. I would be and am soooo grateful.
