Gaz's Fundraising Frenzy
On 2nd January 2013 our lives took an unexpected turn when my husband (Gary) was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the
motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means
messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and
wasting.
MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe and gives a 3 to 5 year lifespan once diagnosed. Not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they
will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.
As you can imagine we were devastated , all sorts of questions were going round in our heads , i think the biggest one was ' what do we tell the kids ? ' How do you tell your children the real reason why you are crying , we couldn't, but vowed that if they ever asked the inevitable question we would tell them the truth . As far as they were concerned at that point daddy & mummy were upset as the doctors couldn't make daddy's hands better.
Gary continued to go to work every day as a soldier , which has done him good as he has loads of friends in there who keep his moral up & keep him laughing & smiling . Love seeing that smile that i fell in love with .
A year has gone by since he has been diagnosed & what a big difference , he is really beginning to struggle with using his hands now & his voice is beginning to become effected .
Money that is raised through this page & any fundraising events will be going towards ,an eyegaze computer which will enable him to communicate with the outside world , his family & our beautiful children , amongst other things which we all do on a daily basis & dont think twice about doing them .
