Books for Foster Children

Mission: May is National Foster Care Month and with this fundraiser we want to donate books for the 160-200 foster children who will be placed in foster care in North Texas this month alone.

When we reach our goal, EACH CHILD will be able to go  home with a NEW BOOK.

A health check up at the Rees-Jones Center is the first stop for a child just after they have been placed in foster care. Some of the children have experienced a potentially traumatic situation, perhaps they left in haste with few or no belongings, and in their prior home they may not have had access to any books or other reading material. Giving them the gift of a book to keep - to be their very own - might just be the comfort a child needs to get through a difficult time. It provides so much more than education and entertainment, it can mean emotional support and a means to grow confidence. A book can be a temporary escape.

Usborne Books & More has generously offered a 50% matching grant and free shipping so we can purchase new, high quality books for infant through teen. All commissions are donated and if we surpass our fundraiser goal we will be able to provide books for future months' new foster children as well. There is no limit to the need to be fulfilled.

We have partnered with the Rees -Jones Center to deliver the books to their new patients. In 2018 the Rees-Jones Center for Foster Care Excellence served 1,829 foster children with a total of 6,939 visits. Roughly 60% of their patients each year are new to the clinic, due to the transient nature of the foster care system.
