Mikayla’s Medical Bills

My sister, Mikayla, was admitted to the hospital last week due to an infection. A lump formed on her neck and after a week of waiting to see if it would go down on its own she was taken to the hospital. After seeing her primary, she was prescribed antibiotics but the infection refused to go down. After another week of “wait and see,” the infection continued to grow and her neck became extremely swollen and red. She was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, September 18, and on Thursday, Sep 20 she had a surgical procedure to try and drain the infection from her neck since it was not responding to the antibiotics. Unfortunately, nothing drained from the infected area. She was discharged on Sunday and was resting at home in hopes that with more antibiotics and rest the infection would improve. Unfortunately, on Friday, it flared back up and she was readmitted to the hospital. She had another surgical procedure yesterday and this time they were able to locate and drain the infection. She is still in the hospital so that they can continue to watch to be sure the infection doesn’t get worse again and to keep her on the IV antibiotics. After insurance, my mom is still responsible for paying $300 every day that Mikayla is there. In addition to these charges she has been staying with Mikayla at the hospital and is trying to work remotely. Unfortunately, she has missed a lot of billable hours and has cashed in all of her vacation days so that she can supplement the hours she’s missed. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
