HELP PAUL BEAT MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

Donation protected
This is my brother Paul Sheridan’s story and why I am here to raise funds to help get him treatment for Multiple Sclerosis.

Paul’s battle began back in the autumn of 2009 when he was diagnosed with having the autoimmune disease Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
MS attacks the myelin sheath surrounding the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. This damage interrupts the messages going to the affected nerve cells resulting in different symptoms including loss of balance, loss of muscle use, muscle pain, vision impairment, and slurred speech to name a few.

Currently there is no cure for MS and symptoms can only be managed by medications and healthy living. However, a treatment Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) has proven to halt the progression of this disease and in some cases improve symptoms. HSCT resets the immune system. This is done by infusing a person’s own stem cells back into their system after receiving immunosuppressive chemotherapy. This infusion helps the body to re-build the immune system. This treatment is not readily available, and currently not at all available in Ireland so many MS sufferers are opting to go abroad to private hospitals. Unfortunately time is not going to wait until this treatment reaches our shores so we have no other option than to go down this road.

So after a lot of research, and trying all treatments currently available Paul has made the brave decision to undergo this treatment in Russia. The cost of this treatment $50,000, this is not including flights, visa or other costs associated with spending 30 days in Russia.  So I'm aiming to try raise €50,000 to cover everything he needs.

I’m asking for all the help and support we can give Paul to get him through the tough journey ahead. Every donation however small or large will be gratefully appreciated. This will be a long journey and I am holding many events to help raise the funds needed so Paul can get this treatment as soon as possible to minimise the damage it is continuously causing him and improve his quality of life.

Paul is due to be admitted into the AA Maximov Hospital, Moscow, Russia on the 5th June this year.  If you'd like further information about the procedure in this hospital you can visit their website:  https://hsct-russia.com

I will be documenting his journey and will post regular updates to include each step of the process. You can follow Paul's story on Facebook here:  @PaulsBattletoBeatMS

Thank you all sincerely for your kind support, please be sure to share this page :)
