SWAT is going to Kenya!

Donation protected
On October 28th, I was told about an opportunity to travel back to Kenya with SWAT Ministries. SWAT is a youth oriented organization that sends college-aged kids to different churches across the southeastern states to lead weekend retreats for youth groups. I became involved with SWAT in the beginning of 2013 and it has been a ministry that has helped me grow in my walk with God and make my relationship with him become my own. This trip to Kenya will be from March 26th to April 3rd and we will be doing a weekend, much like how we do it in the states, for a Kenyan youth organization called BlueSky.

I am called to work in Kenya in many ways and I know that God has led me to this country. This past summer, I travelled courageously with a friend to Kenya. We knew we would be volunteering somewhere near Nairobi, but had no idea what to expect. We ended up getting placed in a small orphanage located in North Kinangop with a compassionate pastor, his wife, their four biological children, and 15 adopted children. This is not a traditional orphanage; the pastor takes in children who have lost both of their parents and they would be living on the streets if he hadn't taken them in as his own. I went there to minister and help them, but being there changed my life completely. I find myself not only being more grateful and aware of the blessings God has given me, but I am also more confident and trusting in what God can do in my life. Since being home, I have kept in touch with this family and even got to help send ten of the children to private school for the 2014 school year, which means that they will have a better chance of getting to go to high school.

It is amazing how God works because out of anywhere in the world that SWAT could go, they are going to a place that is very near and dear to my heart. What makes this trip so incredible to me is that I will be able to visit my orphanage in North Kinangop and see my kids again. This trip will allow me to make plans and further prepare for my more extended stay there later this year.

The total cost of this trip is $1,800 to cover the cost of airfare, food, travel expenses, and accommodations. After much thoughtful prayer and consideration, I know that I am supposed to go on this trip and that God will provide the means for me to do so. I am getting a job and doing all that I can to pull together the money for this trip. However, being a full time college student means that I cannot do so on my own. I find it difficult to ask you for money, but I have to trust that those who can support me will and those who cannot afford to support me financially will continue to support me through prayer and encouragement.
