Motion to the Ocean

Donation protected
16 years ago I was paralyzed from diving in a pool. This injury not only took away my leg function, but also limited my hand and arm function. Since my injury, my
mission has to not only become as independent as possible but also to find and provide people with physical limitations the opportunity to push the boundaries and excede others and their own expectations through recreational activities.

Once I was able to get over the hump and accept this life changing injury, there was still a void that needed to be filled. I was always a very active and competitive person my entire life. There wasn’t a sport I didn’t play, I lifted weights, and I loved the water more than life itself. Being forced to be a spectator, where I could only watch and not participate, led me on a desperate search to find if and how there was a way to getting back on that horse again.

After a long voyage of connecting the dots with the right people and places, I’ve done what others and I thought was impossible and excelled my own expectations. I surf, water ski, golf, hand cycle, sail, snow ski, swim, and more. But without the army I have behind me, this mission would be impossible. People have always supported me with the goals I I’ve accomplish but never know what it literally takes to get there and the expense of owning equipment in this predicament cost. Because of this, people with a SCI are forced only to participate in activities a handful of times a year and can only do so if we have others to assist us.

I want to help those families with access to be able to get out and enjoy life without having to worry about the cost of the inflation that comes automatically with SCI. I’m  targeting a $6,500 goal to reach to purchase a Freedom Trax unit. Freedom Trax is a tank like platform where an individual can roll onto and dominate the beach or access rougher terrain in the mountains without the need of any assistance. The Freedom Trax will not only be used by me but it’ll be available to those planing on a vacation where they’d like to use it.

If you’re willing to give me something you’ve worked hard for, I’m going to show you my commitment by swimming 1 mile. I’m all about water sports and this won’t be the last time I participate in this event. This year just me, but next year I’ll have a motivated army of SCI survivors swimming along side.
