Hazel vs. Lipo-Sarcoma

Dear Friends, Thank you for all the encouragement, prayers, and kind words. The response from people when times are difficult is humbling. It is one of the great virtues of the human race...we care for each other. I even like Roger Carr and he is as big a Spartan fan as you can find on the planet...what sound logic could ever explain something like that? Anyway, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To date I have had blood labs, x-rays, CT scans, kidney biopsy, and an MRI. Now, here's the latest. It appears that I have a fun little gem called undifferentiated Lipo-sarcoma. It is a rare and nasty thing. Because it is rare there is not nearly as much data on it as other cancers or on what treatment works best...lucky me. Monday I am having a complete bone scan (to see if this thing is hiding anywhere else in my Greek god-like body) and then Friday I am getting blasted with some radiation to relieve some pain from a mass that apparently has taken up residence on my spine. In the meantime, Sue and I, after much research are trying to find where in the U.S. I should be going for treatment. GR is not a place where sarcomas are treated on a regular basis. Hopefully the following week I will be traveling to someplace like MD Anderson clinic in Houston, Mayo clinic in Rochester MN, or the Cleveland clinic in Ohio (Good lord, Ohio...ugh). That is a choice we are currently wrestling with. Houston is the #1 place in America, but timing and logistic difficulties may eliminate it as an option. After that we are not sure. Please be in prayer for us that the right place makes itself obvious and I can proceed with the battle...soon!
