The B17 Steam Locomotive Trust is a registered charity whose main purpose is to build a new B17 Steam Locomotive. We have an active
Community Plan which is targeted at the training of youngsters at all levels in the skills necessary to become an Engineer, by using the learning context of our new build locomotive.
In the last 5 years, we have constructed a chassis certified as fit for mainline use and are now committed to the completion of the Rolling
Chassis, with all our current funding supporting this.
Our next major challenge will be the manufacture of a Boiler and this is to be made in the UK. From enquiries already made, we know that we need to put down a 10% deposit on the boiler before we will be put in the queue of jobs awaiting a start on their completion.
This means that we need £70,000 to be able to place an order and be put in a queue approximately 2 years long before work can even start. Whilst this would give us time to raise the rest of the funds to pay for it, we cannot get onto the waiting list without this £70,000 deposit. Currently, through our normal income streams and donations we are concentrating on completing the rolling chassis. We would be delighted if you are able to make a donation so we can start the boiler process.
Once the deposit is raised, we can place an order for the boiler and plan the next training programme for young Engineers! Once we are in the queue, we can complete the design work for our 21st century boiler. This will provide meaningful tasks for Undergraduates, Apprentices and 6th form students, as we are already working with these groups. This is the 'heart' of our engine - let's finish the design whilst waiting for the manufacture to start.
