Elsie’s Portosystemic Shunt Surgery

******** Sadly on October 10th, Elsie passed away from multiple seizures, just one day after surgery. *******
Elsie is a 2-year old rescue miniature pinscher who was first diagnosed with diabetes insipidus. This makes her drink excessively and also pee excessively. Her urine gravity has been like pure water. A think tank of vets came up with the idea of a portosystemic Shunt or a liver Shunt. She is not getting the benefit of cleaning out her system. Her liver Shunt was discovered by several high bile acid tests. An artery in her liver is bypassing the organ and not cleaning out her blood properly. The ideal situation is to surgically clamp off the bad artery so that the other arteries will go through the liver and clean out all that bile like it should. This might even help her urination problem. Poor Elsie has been a trooper but I am struggling to care for her and another rescue puppy, in addition to daily living costs. I’m hoping someone might understand Elsie’s situation and be the angel she needs! I want to give her a long and healthy life in a loving home. She deserves every moment! My veterinarian has recommended she see a specialist at Purdue University Animal Hospital so I hope this will provide the answers we need! She will likely need surgery and follow up treatment so every donation is very much appreciated! In the worst case scenarios, costs could go as high as $5,000 to $6,000.
