In Memory of Gloria Barnett-Portis

On December 28, 2013, our aunt Gloria Barnett-Portis died in a tragic car accident. Aunt Gloria was a compassionate, vital and loving friend to many. She was a devoted sister to our Uncle's Timmy, Joey, Michael and my mother Michelle. She was the proud mother of three beautiful daughters Erin, Leslie and Sami and the families they created. Aunt Gloria especially loved being a grandmother and each grandchild owned a special part of her heart.

Aunt Gloria's love extended beyond to all of her nieces and nephews and our families. Everyone who met Aunt Gloria felt immediately connected to and loved by her. At this difficult time, we may all take comfort in knowing Aunt Gloria lived a happy and rewarding life. Our family is grateful that she was blessed in grace by being spared pain in the end so that she could return home quickly to Our Father.

Aunt Gloria's memorial has been scheduled for this Sunday, January 5, 3:00pm at Whitman Chapel AME Church in Belpre, Ohio. Many of you may remember that last year on this day, Gloria's mother "Nanny" was buried in Belpre.

Unfortunately, there were no provisions left for Aunt Gloria's departure. Beyond the standard funeral and burial costs, our cousins and their families must travel from all over the country during a time when airfares are already inflated. There are rental car and hotel costs, general travel expenses, meals and lost wages that will need to be covered. Our family has been able to help defray a portion of the unexpected expense, but additional help is needed.

As many people have asked how they can help, we decided to create this platform. This way those who want to and can donate have a way to do so easily. We understand everyone is not able to help financially, but Gloria's children and grandchildren still need their support through this difficult time too. Please keep Erin, Leslie, Sami and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
