Jordan's 8th gr Duke TIP summer trip

***SEE THE UPDATED INFO AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS MESSAGE!** Jordan was identified by the Duke University Talented Identification Program after exceeding expectations on the CRCT in 6th grade. He took the SAT in 7th grade and scored well beyond the entrance criteria for many colleges and universities. After finishing seventh grade last school year, he attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville for a week and participated in a course on Theater. This summer, he would like to attend The University of Georgia for a four week session to take another course. He has narrowed his choices down to Cold War: From Allies to Adversaries, Criminal Law and Mock Trial, and The Brain, Intelligence, and Creativity. Jordan qualifies for programs at seven colleges and universities, but we have chosen for him to stay in state. This program allows students to increase their knowledge and experience life on a college campus with same-age peers. He's looking forward to attending a summer program at Duke University Marine Lab during his high school years. Thank you for supporting his ambitious goals!

**Jordan received his official summer studies information this week and he actually qualifies for the CENTER PROGRAMS rather than the ACADEMY PROGRAMS. CENTER PROGRAMS require higher scores on the SAT! The first page of his booklet states, "The score you received on the ACT or the SAT was a remarkable achievement. Shudents must be within the top 5 percent of academically talented students in the seventh grade to participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) 7th Grade Talent Search. Of the over 70,000 students who take part in the 7th Grade Talent Search each year, you are part of the select group qualified to attend the Duke TIP Center for Summer Studies." He now has a few days to peruse the details and make a decision about which school and course he would like to apply for.
