Gary’s Gift of Life

UPDATE***

It breaks my heart to share that Gary did not make it out of surgery and passed away during the transplant procedure. There were no complications. His body had just gotten too sick too fast to withstand the lengthy surgery.

Gary leaves behind his wife Kadie and his 3 daughters along with many friends and family who loved him so dearly and were hoping and praying for the best outcome.

Friends and family of Gary had barely even begun to process the whirlwind of his diagnosis, let alone begin to process his sudden unexpected passing.

Please, share their story so that we can all be in prayer for them during their most unfathomably difficult time and consider giving as the family will be left with medical and funeral expenses.

Funeral arrangements will be listed as they are arranged.

On July 24th, after months of being sick to his stomach and unable to find a diagnosis, Gary and his family received a call that he had been diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease. His overall lab values looked stable and his Doctor believed he would be able to treat the disease with medicine.

On July 31st, Gary was admitted into ICU at UAMS where it was determined he was in Fulminant Hepatic Failure due to Wilson’s Disease.

August 3rd, Gary was placed on the National Liver Transplant list and was awaiting his new chance at a long, healthy life. The week before, his liver was still healthy enough to heal itself. One short week later, because of the type of failure, he was listed nationally at emergent status and was placed first on the list, meaning he was the sickest liver transplant candidate in the country.

August 5th, Gary and his family were matched with a donor. Gary’s Doctor said he would not have been able to survive another week without the new liver.

Gary went into surgery at 7:29 on August 5th and is under going a 8-10 hour surgery.

Please be praying for Gary, his wife Kadie and their 3 daughters as well as the transplant team and for Gary’s body to withstand such a lengthy surgery and that his body would accept the new liver as his own.

Any donations would be extremely helpful and humbling to Gary and his family especially considering they will be required to stay in a hotel in Little Rock for a month post transplant.

This new hope for Gary would not be possible without the gift of organ donation and by the grace of God.

The weight of understanding that one family must mourn the loss of their loved one while their family celebrates a chance at a new life is overwhelming and ask you to join them in praying for the donors family.
