Help for the Norlander Family

Donation protected
It is with great sadness that we share the news that David Norlander, affectionately known as Day-Day passed away Tuesday evening, June 4, 2019.  David was a remarkable son, husband, father and uncle with a charming personality, and a wonderful sense of humor. He embodied the essence of compassion, love and hope.

In an unfortunate turn of events David lost his life insurance when his company terminated his employment when he became sick.  We ask for your help during this exceptionally difficult time.  David's loving wife, Meredith, and their amazing children, Ella and Charlie, need our help. If you would like to make a donation toward funeral expenses and to help with daily living expenses while the family works on a plan to survive without David, his family will be forever grateful.

David's story of what happened during the last fifteen months is as follows. He was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary hypertension and was placed on oxygen therapy at home. Positive and hopeful as always, David was confident he would recover.

Three weeks ago, his lung disease took a significant turn for the worse and he was hospitalized at The Mayo Clinic in the intensive care unit. After two weeks of grueling medical tests, he was finally listed for a double lung transplant. David was at the top of the list; however, while waiting for lungs, his condition worsened and on Friday night, May 31 he was intubated and placed in a medically-induced coma to buy some time for lungs to become available.

On Monday his kidneys started to fail and his only option was to be placed on an Ecmo machine, which was done in the operating room on Tuesday morning, June 4. David was taken into recovery in the ICU around 11 am and seemed to be stabilizing. Painfully, this only lasted for a short period of time before he coded twice within the next hour.

David, our warrior, fought the battle of his life on Tuesday. His critical care team exhausted every medical option available to them over the course of the next seven hours. A little after 8 pm, David received last rites and he died peacefully with his family by his bedside.

Having just turned 50, we said goodbye to David sooner than any of us ever imagined. David touched so many people's lives and was loved by many. The extreme agony and sadness of his grueling battle is devastating.

We would like to thank everyone who has been with us, reached out to us, and kept our family in their prayers. If you have any questions please contact Chris Norlander.  We would like to give Meredith, Charlie and Ella some peace of mind during this very difficult time as they are left without a husband and father and are shepherding a financial burden.

With love and gratitude,
