Casper Salgado is a 15-year-old who has been recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This diagnosis was a complete shock and devastation to Casper and his family. He had a doctor's appointment for symptoms on February 9th and was admitted to the hospital that night. He has been in the hospital since then going through a lot of procedures, tests, therapies and medications as well as undergoing his first round of chemo and waiting for his blood count to go back up. After his counts recover, he will get a short break at home for about a week before he has to go back in for the next round of chemo and count recovery. It is still unclear how long his treatment will be. The doctors say he could need 4-6 rounds of chemo in total, with the possibility of each round taking a longer amount of time to recover. The whole treatment could be 6 months or longer. It is also still uncertain whether or not he will need a bone marrow transplant.

Casper is a strong and brave young man. He has been fighting through this first round and all of its challenges. Casper is a Freshman at Morton West High School and after finishing his Freshman football season he was excited to start the upcoming baseball season. He has a passion for baseball and has been playing with Rake City since he was 9 years old. Casper is a very active, social, kind and charismatic boy who gets along with everyone. He is disappointed that he will be missing out on the upcoming baseball season while he continues to work hard on getting himself healthy in the hospital over the summer.

Casper has 2 younger sisters, who are 10 and 12 years old. His mom has taken FMLA from her job as a 2nd-grade teacher for the remainder of the school year to care for Casper and stay with him most of the time in the hospital. She is not receiving her regular pay because she didn’t have that many sick days. Casper’s dad took some time off at the beginning of the diagnosis and is now working, but is working reduced hours to be able to also spend some time at the hospital and allow his wife to go home occasionally.

This has been a very difficult and emotional time for the whole family. Your donation will help support the family with the costs of the medical treatment, which is still uncertain how much it will be and for how long the treatments will last. It will also help with the cost of living, which include transportation, household bills, groceries/food, and necessities for the family. We would also like to give Casper some things and experiences to keep him busy and his energy and mind positive.

Any support is greatly appreciated, financially or emotionally. Casper’s family has been trying to remain positive and keep their hopes and spirits high. Please help support Casper in this battle that is the biggest challenge he or anyone in his family has ever faced. Casper and his family are grateful for those that are keeping Casper in their thoughts and reaching out to him with their support. For non-monetary gifts and/or donations, please email directly to coordinate accordingly.
