Malnutrition is still a huge global challenge!
The Nutrition Unit at Kyotera Medical Centre, Uganda, provides specialised medical care to severely malnourished children and their caretakers. Over the past 10 years more than 1500 severely malnourished children have been treated, ranging in ages from 0 to 5 years. The unit is also providing Outreach Programs and have educated more than 8000 local community members about (mal)nutrition and quality care in Southern Uganda.
The Unit has many success stories and countless lives have been saved.
At the nutrition unit patients receive specialised medical care and treatment following a customised diet designed for each individual's personal circumstances, degree of malnutrition and body weight. Recovery of severe malnutrition can take up to 4 weeks in hospital followed by ongoing home visits after discharge, to monitor the child's health and to ensure quality care is provided at home.
The costs to provide this care is between 75 - 100 euro per patient which includes treatment, medication and food.
The Nutrition Unit receives referrals from government and other private health centres as there is no other facility providing nutrition services in the Districts of operation
To continue this great work, The Nutrition Unit seeks to expand its sponsorship base, through an ongoing sponsorship program from businesses and indivuals.
A little contribution can help those in need get the quality care they deserve.
