We, Creato and Underscore Projects are so proud and excited to announce that we have partnered to present the culmination of ‘Project Crea’ as an exhibition where ten (10) Toronto-based Latine/x youth creatives and their mentors will share their work .

 

What is Project Crea?

Project Crea is Creato’s first mentorship, arts entrepreneurship initiative where emerging youth creatives are learning practical tools on how to circulate, support and maintain their arts-practice. In the Spring of 2021, Creato was honoured to receive a grant through Art Reach and the Toronto Arts Council which made funding of this program possible.

 

We need your help!

As Latine/x creatives, we often face systemic barriers and underrepresentation in the arts sector in Canada and it is our goal to find ways to break those barriers and amplify the Latine/x creative voices of our community .

 

The final showcase, not covered by the grant, is an important milestone marking the culmination of the program, and an opportunity to celebrate, recognize and support emerging Latine creators.

What are you using the funds for?

As an emerging grassroots collective and gallery space, funding is limited and we are seeking financial support from the community to cover the basic costs of the exhibition expenses.

About the Exhibit:

This will be an in-person event presented by Underscore Projects (1468 Dundas St W) in Toronto from October 29th to November 14th.

 

Departing from Project Crea' a mentorship program, the exhibition will highlight both the mentees' personal projects as well as the mentors' work in a two-part exhibition.

 

Part 1 - ‘Nature w/ Nurture’

The concept presents creativity as our shared problem-solving ‘Nature’ and ‘Nurture’ as an elemental aspect present in every successful artist’s journey forward. This is reflected by the exhibited projects developed by Creato’s Project Crea program.

 

Part 2 - ‘Guardians’

Building from the ‘Nature w/ Nurture’ concept in Part 1, ‘Guardians’ exposes the impact that established artists inspire as they activate new precedents for the art community. With every creative risk taken, we continue to pave an inspirational art road ahead for those who will follow. This part of the exhibition will feature experienced Latine/x artists connected through the Creato collective. This is an opportunity to showcase art world professionalism enabled by a connected and supportive local community.

Who is Creato?

Creato is a grassroots collective dedicated to connecting, supporting and spotlighting artists and creatives who identify as Latine / Latinx in Canada. Creato is run by a team of passionate Latine volunteers in the sector who care deeply about art, creativity and the Latine/x community in Canada.
