Burial and Funeral Services

Donation protected
On St. Valentine’s Day, February 14, in Indianapolis IN, we learned William’s grandson Chad Smitherman, 20 years old, one-hour older than his twin brother Chase, was shot multiple times in the head and body.

Chad died the same day as a result of the gun shot wounds. Our understanding is, via Fox 59 News, police reports, and family members, that Chad became the victim of this violent, unnecessary crime, near a local convenience store in Indianapolis. His death is currently under police investigation.

Our grandson was a graduate of Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis and a former member of the varsity football team, and an above-average student. Chad was working to prepare for college, hoping to improve his quality of life. Chad’s dream and goals included obtaining a college education and becoming a pro football player like his hero Tyrann Mathieu, former Arizona Cardinals Pro Safety, now a member of the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs Pro football team.

His life as a young man was just beginning!

Chad had no life insurance coverage. Therefore, the family asks that in place of flowers, donations be made in his honor. A GoFundMe account and other such accounts, are being established on social media web sites like Facebook, in his name. Funeral services are planned at Trinity Baptist Church of Indianapolis, 3162 Baltimore Ave, Indianapolis IN 46218, Saturday, February 29, 2020 beginning at 11 a.m.

We must ‘STOP” gun violence! The price we pay as parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends of victims of such violent acts is too high!

Thank you.
