In the summer of 2013, Detective Summershoe of Phoenix Police Department, Missing Persons Division, picked up Julie's cold case, contacted me and requested a DNA test from my brother Perry Rutterbush, Dennis Grubaugh (Julie's Son) and I, Eva Rovang.
On November 19th, Detective Summershoe, called and informed me that they had a match. Julie's remains had been found on April 16, 1988 by a duck hunter, in the middle of a field, in Pinal County, Arizona.
Julie Grubaugh has been laying in a morgue for the past 25 years as a Jane Doe. Her case is now considered a Homicide. There was an article in the Petoskey News review on November 21, 2013 http://www.petoskeynews.com/featured-pnr/from-missing-to-murder-northern-michigan-woman-s-remains-id/article_7ab28918-52c2-11e3-96a5-001a4bcf6878.html?mode=story and Fox 32 News also covered her story on November 19, 2013. http://www.mifox32.com/story/24016615/cheboygan-womans-remains-identified-after-25-years . We are so thankful for them telling her story.
Julie was a mother of two, Karen who now resides in Mississippi, and Dennis who resides in Cheboygan Michigan. Both are happy that their mother has been found, but saddened by the outcome.
We are in need of funds to have her remains cremated and returned home. We plan to have her buried next to her parents Ray and Marion Belaen of Brutus, in the St. Clements Cemetery in Pellston, Mi. Her children have asked that we have a Memorial Service next summer in July, when Karen is able to return.
None of Julie's family are able to handle the cost of giving her closure and a final resting place, therefore we are requesting help. She was a young, loving mother of two, who was loved by both friends and family. She has been missed all these years. We want with all our hearts to Bring Her Home so she can Rest in Peace, after 27 years, close to friends and family that loved her.
Thank you for any amount the you can contribute. May God Bless you and keep your families safe from harm.
