My name is David, I have an amazing dad, I know everyone says that, but he really is.  He works hard every day and has taught me so much in my 18 years of life.  He is a Lifetime member of our local volunteer fire department and has been a member for 32 years. He's always someone who would help anyone who needed it. Also he was my coach or helped coach my baseball team all 11 years of my little league career. Words cant explain how much he has done for me and to see him like this kills me and I'd love to be there for him like he has been for me, but we are in a bit of a bind right now and need some help.  My dad has been out of work for 2 months now and not sure how much longer he will be out but hoping it won’t be much longer.  He has exhausted all his paid time off and things are getting tight.  He has medical insurance through the Marketplace (aka Obamacare) it isn’t the greatest but it’s what he could afford.  Let me tell you why we need help. He has diabetes, and, in the spring, he stepped on a stone that cut his foot.  Unfortunately, an infection set in without him knowing until just after Labor Day.  My mom took him to the emergency room on September 7th and he ended up having emergency surgery and lost his left big toe.  The infection was so bad, the doctor called it “gas gangrene”.  They had to make more than one incision on the left foot to help decompress the infection and both were not able to be closed.  He has two open wounds on his left foot which required a wound vac and still are not completely closed.  During his hospital stay a “spot” showed up on his right foot that ended up being an abscess that the surgeon had to do a debridement to remove it.  Two days later one formed on the top of that same foot so more debridement and that had to be left open as well.  Because of these wounds on both feet he is unable to put total weight on either foot.  There is a huge out of pocket deductible (over $7,000) before insurance covers, at 60% so we are looking at %40 of most everything.  1 week in the hospital after surgery, 2 weeks in rehab and the past 5 weeks with a home health nurse 3 times a week and 3 weeks with a physical therapist 2 times a week.  On top of that there is the wound vac for 1 month at $38.50 a day plus $500-$1000 for the supplies and then the doctor bill.  So far, the only bills received are the hospital stay and the surgeon’s bill and that is over $7,000.  I cannot imagine what it will be up to when the others start rolling in Now that he isn’t getting a paycheck this is all going to be very difficult to say the least with a mortgage, car payments, insurance payments, gas, utilities and groceries.  I am in college full time and I am looking for part time work to help.  My sister is disabled and does work about 16 hours a week.  My mom works a full-time job and a part time job and still takes care of my dad.  It is all become very overwhelming.  I can’t imagine what Christmas will be like this year.  Any help is appreciated, my family is important to me and I love my parents very much.
