Ollie Overcoming SMA My little Ollie pants was diagnosed with SMA 1. Here is the background of my little angels diagnosis- SMA is sometimes referred to as 'Werdnig-Hoffman Disease' or 'Spinal Muscular Atrophy'. SMA Type 1 is the most severe form of SMA. The symptoms of SMA Type 1 usually begin from birth or within the first few weeks or months of life. SMA Type 1 is a life-limiting condition. Though it is not possible to accurately predict, for the majority of children (approximately 95%) life expectancy is less than 18 months. In general babies diagnosed within the first few weeks or months of life have a significantly shorter life expectancy. We took a leap of faith and started a GoFundMe for our miracle"Ollie" to help pay for the treatments, doctor’s bills, insurance co-pays, travel costs and lost wages, which would cost upwards of $10k.
