My name is Janet, and I am raising money for my son John Hauck age 39 and his family In February he became ill. We thought he had the flu after a few day he was feeling a little better so we thought everything was ok. Then he became even sicker until he lost his mobility and was having issues with his breathing. His wife took him to the ER. He was septic. The infection was all through his body affecting his heart, lungs, kidney and liver. The doctor said if he would have waited one more day he would probably have died. He would need open heart surgery but because he was so full of infection we had to wait till infection improved. He was sedated and put on a ventilator in a medically induced coma. It ended up being 3 weeks before he was able to be taken off ventilator. Not only that he woke up with pneumonia! Then another week of still waiting for kidneys and lungs to improve to be able to tolerate the surgery. Finally the day came for a valve replacement for his heart. It was a 4 hr surgery and things seemed to go well. After a few days it was evident that he would need a pacemaker. So that was placed. Finally out of ICU a few days later and trouble started again. The pneumonia was worse and coughing irritated surgery and pacemaker had issues to back to ICU. Pacemaker was reset but pneumonia was relentless. So much suctioning and scoping that a tracheostomy was placed again and put on ventilator again to make suctioning easier and to give his body some rest in. Finally in May he was well enough to be discharged to a Rehabilitation facility for physical, occupational, and speech therapy. After being bedridden for 70+ days he was not even able to stand. I have had to fly up here back and fourth to support him and his wife in transporting her and very seldomly some of my grandchildren because they have no transportation. All this happened while he was looking for employment and the vehice they have has expired tags and work that needs done before it can pass inspection. If that isn't bad enough, they were evicted 5 days before he was admitted. After being in physical rehab for 3 weeks, he is finally able to walk a little bit but caught another bug of pneumonia an is back in the hospital recovering again. We are in dier need and financially strapped and in addition to the transportation issue, we need housing for them or an apartment. They are a blended family so they have children involved inluding 2 and 3 year old little boys, Kameron and Kalvin which are their fulltime responsibilities. Whatever help you can give no matter how small will be so much appreciated but no matter what, please repost on your page. We are short on time and need your help!
