Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

At the beginning of April 2018, Tori Johnston underwent two spinal surgeries to replace three discs. This was after at least four months of excruciating pain. Prior to the surgery, Tori had been unable to work, and with a broken down automobile and subzero temperatures, had a devil of a time getting to medical appointments.  It’s been a brutal winter.

Tori spent two weeks in the surgical unit of HCMC , recovering from the surgery. During the surgery, a large tumor was found on her spine. It came back positive for cancer. While at HCMC, it was determined that the origination of that tumor was in the pancreas.  This was devastating news. Tori  was assigned an oncologist that she likes. She wants Tori to heal from the surgery, and then propose options for treatment of the cancer.

Now, Tori’s in a rehab receiving Physical and Occupational therapy. She’s at Redeemer, which is located on W 31st St – just off Lyndale Ave. She loves visits and would love to see you.

There’re all sorts of things happening right now to help Tori: folks are working on her house, because her ultimate goal is to GO HOME. As of 4/20, her stated goal is to go home in two weeks. While Redeemer has singalongs and bingo, (Whee!) Tori’s not having any of it. *Which got me to thinking, since boomers are going to be populating nursing homes soon, wouldn’t it be cool to have groups like Kinda Kinky and Curt playing our favorite tunes?

If you go to Redeemer, ask for MARY Johnston. Although the staff seem to have already profiled her visitors. We seem to have a certain “vibe.”

Other people are working on her house-painting, plumbing and installing bath hardware. Tori’s sisters are working on financial considerations and a consultant to navigate the murky waters of insurance, Medicare and Medicaid. Finally, we have a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to supplement payments for other expenses such as a hospital bed and hospice care.

Any cash donation, any size, will be deeply deeply appreciated! Donors of $500 and over will receive a case of your favorite Old Dutch Chips! Thanks for reading! One love.
