Moving Mountains For Lisa

Donation protected
On Friday, March 30, only two days after being admitted to the St. Luke’s Medical ICU for what appeared to be flu-like-symptoms and possible pneumonia, Lisa’s Family was sat down by her team of doctors. They explained the extremely critical nature of Lisa’s condition and that they had no answers as to how or why this was happening; they thought this may be talk that no family wants to hear. To their surprise, the hematology specialist said there was only one diagnosis he could find that would explain not only her current condition, but also the rapid deterioration of her condition - Macrophage Activation Syndrome. To put it plainly, Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS) sporadically activates a large scale infection in the body (usually through the bone marrow, but also in the internal organs). This infection is sophisticated and manages to change in order to bypass antibiotics and annihilate the body’s immune system. It also debunks the blood cells, making it nearly impossible for the internal organs to work together, causing multi-system organ failure. Lisa was on full life support before doctors could get any ideas of what was happening to her. It’s hard to tell what causes the infection, but this syndrome is so extremely rare that most doctors don’t even know how to diagnose it or what they’re seeing when they look at the blood of a MAS patient. Luckily, the hematology specialist on Lisa’s case had treated one case previously. He suggested we use the HLH94 Protocol to kill the infection and help Lisa’s body build enough cells to repair the ravenous damage done to Lisa’s body in such a short amount of time. Repair and healing will require chemo therapy to kill the infection and steroids to help jump start her liver into making new, healthy cells. This diagnosis does not even begin to explain why it this all occurred, and it may not be the answer to her illness, but it’s the best chance at saving her life.

Lisa is fighting for her life, with your prayer, well wishes and positive vibes we can help her fight. If you know Lisa she would literally give the shirt off of her back to help anyone who needed it.

I am sharing this with a heavy heart as Lisa holds such a special place in mine. She has such a beautiful soul and has truly brought so much joy so many of our lives.

If able, I am asking that we come together to help raise funds for the Macon family. These funds will be used for medical expenses and Lisa’s bills while she remains in the ICU in critical condition.

I will post updates as they come.

Thank you all so much.
