Last November 2017 I was diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer. Anaplastic thyroid cancer is one of the fastest growing and most aggressive of all cancers. It is also known as undifferentiated thyroid cancer because the cells do not look or behave like typical thyroid cells. The cause of anaplastic thyroid cancer is unknown, however, in some cases it arises in the setting of differentiated thyroid cancers such as papillary or follicular thyroid cancers. Overall survival statistics are discouraging – with an average survival rate of 6 months and approximately 1 in 5 alive after 12 months. The chances of it coming back are high.
Since December, I have had two major surgeries. The first was a complete thyroidectomy while the second was to remove 46 lymph nodes from my neck. Since then I have been going through radiation therapy treatments in hopes that it will keep the cancer from spreading.

                                                  BEAM-O NOT CHEMO

I have been going to Grateful Dead shows since July 24th, 1987 - Oakland Colosseum (Ricky Henderson Field). My first show happened to be the same as my husband, Kevin Quinn's second show. (Respectfully named the Mighty Quinn, by the band, as that was encored during his first three shows, starting May 3rd, 1987 Frost Amphitheater, Stanford University)  Who knew that we were to be married 25 yeas later. This band and community is a part of my soul and I always walk away happy and in a sense "reborn". I have heard of cancer cures through positive reinforcement. The most positive place on earth I have ever experienced - is a Dead show. "There is nothing like a Grateful Dead Show"

                                                     "MIGHT AS WELL"

I have been looking into sound healing therapy - drumming to BEAT cancer. A few weeks ago I was blessed with spending a few hours with Mickey Hart, at his house talking about drumming, Mickey's brain and the universe, and how it all ties together to heal and create life.If there is a cure it will be through “Beam-o - not Chemo” (thank you Dr. Mickey - and thank you GARTH) the best sound therapy anyone could ask for. When the tour is over it will be time for me to have my follow up PET Scan - my goal is to have it come back as cancer free through a miracle of all the possible energy created through drums and space.

There are 17 Dead and Co. Summer Tour shows we hope to tackle. The best news I have gotten was the announcement of summer tour during the shit storm of bad news I was receiving everyday........ I finally felt a little bit of hope

                                   "I NEED A MIRACLE EVERYDAY"

Starting in Saratoga Springs, New York all the way to Colorado. It is a month on the road but it a month being surrounded by so much love from a heartfelt community. What I am looking for from this page is to help with travel expenses  and securing tickets to every show (option - donate tickets for us at will call in our names Julie and Kevin Quinn, because getting into the show is what really is most important to me - forever grateful) . This is really important as I feel it is the best therapy anyone could ask for. Plus what an opportunity to be able to also visit, and heal  with friends and family as we travel across the US

One thing I do know is I don’t know how much time I have left. I do know that if the radiation does not contain or kill the cancer in my neck, my doctor has advised me that I will only have “months” to live.
I want to thank all of you for taking the time to read this. I love all of you and hope that I can take a little bit of all of you on the road. I also hope to ask that you can share this with as many of your friends and family.

                                             "THEY LOVE EACH OTHER"

I want to thank my friends and family who have been beyond supportive and amazing. I am determined to beat this. I have to beat this. This is something we never expected. We are all stunned and doing all we can to bring as much of our family and friends together. Its a hard thing to comes to grips with and something you just don’t think about ever happening - I am 47 years old with the best husband and two amazing daughters and a step son (who was actually born the same day as my daughter - how cosmic is that). Between the three of them we have 4 grand-kids ( 3 -girls and 1-boy). I know with the love and support I gain from the community I will be able to watch them grow, graduate and multiply
